🎃 The Story of Halloween
A long, long time ago, more than 2,000 years ago, the Celtic people in Ireland, Scotland, and England had a special festival called Samhain 🍂.
They believed that on the night of October 31st, the world of the living and the world of the spirits 👻 were very close. People lit big bonfires 🔥 and wore costumes to scare away the ghosts.
When Christianity came to Europe ✝, November 1st became All Saints’ Day (also called All Hallows’ Day). That made the night before, October 31st, All Hallows’ Eve → which slowly turned into the word Halloween 🕯.
Later, Irish people moved to America 🇺🇸 and took their traditions with them. Instead of using turnips, they began carving pumpkins 🎃 and putting candles inside. These became the famous Jack-o’-lanterns!
Over time, Halloween became a fun night for children. Kids dress up in costumes 👸🦸♂, go door to door saying “Trick or Treat!” 🍬, and collect sweets. Today, it’s one of the most exciting celebrations for families and friends all over the world 🌍.
✨ Fun fact for kids: Did you know the word “bonfire” comes from “bone fire”? People once burned animal bones to keep away bad
spirits! 🦴🔥
